Steve currently provides portfolio and project level retail development strategy, leasing and merchandising planning, and transaction execution for JLL's current and prospective retail clients. Drawing upon his extensive retail knowledge, retailer relationships and industry experience gained over the past 30 years, Steve offers an impressive project and leadership rsum assisting clients with impactful, strategic and results-driven expertise to unlock the value-creation potential for their projects and portfolios.
Working for industry-leading real estate firms throughout his career, Steve has established deep roots and quality relationships across the retail and brokerage communities. His innovative approach and diverse background in all retail product types from enclosed malls to ground-up developments and mixed-use projects to power centers and lifestyle centers serve as an added value to clients.
Steve spent the first 16 years of his career at Homart Development Company and General Growth Properties (GGP) with a focus on regional malls where he led transaction teams across the company's portfolio of redevelopment and new development leasing activities. His tenure with GGP entailed many leadership positions and culminated as the Senior Vice President of Leasing and Asset Management for the East Coast.
From 2002 -2010, Steve served as the Executive Vice President of Leasing and COO for Cousins Properties' Retail Division, where he led a robust lifestyle and power center development and leasing program that helped Cousins become a nationally recognized leader and industry standard in the lifestyle center space with its "Avenue concept". He successfully oversaw 12 development and redevelopment projects totaling more than five million SF with a project value in excess of $750M.
In 2010, Steve joined JLL to head the strategy and expansion of its open-air/local market retail platform. From 2010-2015, Steve led JLL's initiative to create and grow its local retail brokerage operation, which involved strategically recruiting brokerage talent in multiple markets throughout the country. To date, JLL's brokerage program has grown to in excess of 150 retail brokers in approximately 30 markets. Steve's active involvement and guidance in building the brokerage platform has further strengthened his knowledge of multiple retail markets and established tremendous retailer and brokerage relationships across the country.
Education and Affiliations
Steve earned his bachelor of science degree in business management from Northern Kentucky University. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
